The process of reclaiming and reconstructing barns and log cabins is nearly identical. When dealing with historic structures, the condition varies from case to case. We do our absolute best to salvage and preserve everything possible.
We source much of our reclaimed materials from Pennsylvania area barns. There are occasions when most or nearly all components of the barns are in pristine condition. To better preserve the unique history of these early American structures, we opt to provide the entire structure rather than disassembling and selling these reclaimed parts individually.
Barns lend endless opportunities for use in home conversions, in-law suites, entertainment venues, studios or statement commercial buildings.
What is Included?
Most often, the price of the structure includes the frame, rafters and replacement pieces if needed. We carefully select replacements of a similar age and species. Additionally, we will dismantle, tag, and provide hand-drawn non-CAD plans for reassembly. Flooring, doors and/or windows may be included in the price.
What Materials Will I Need?
Sill plates: Often, we find that sill plates are not re-useable, as they were directly on the ground for up to 200 years. Many clients replace sills with pressure-treated materials and wrap them to match the barn. Should you prefer period sill plates, we can supply them in a separate quote.
Interior Finishes: If you are creating an authentic project, we offer a wide variety of reclaimed materials that include flooring, interior walls/ceilings and beams. We recommend using reclaimed materials throughout the project to achieve a resolved look. Should you decide to finish your project with our material, you will be granted a Builder Discount.
Furnishings: We offer reclaimed furniture through our Legacy Line. Implementing furniture built from historic materials offers a fully cohesive look.
Who Rebuilds It?
Once the structure has been shipped to your location, we will provide you with the drawings for reassembly. Customers rebuild these themselves, others hire contractors and some use our crews.
